MARRC Recognized Outstanding Individuals with President's Awards
From MARRC President Roger Lyle
MARRC President Roger Lyle awarded four individuals for their contributions in promoting and advancing motorcycle roadracing. The honorees were recognized for their entry into the roadracing world as racers and then moving into the business and management side of the sport.
Kevin Elliott of the Championship Cup Series (CCS), has been involved in roadracing for 22 years and manages CCS. You can find Kevin Elliott any weekend at a CCS or Formula USA event, where his enthusiasm and attitude carries him well beyond a normal 40 hour work week. Kevin recently hosted a 3 day road race operations school for 40 CCS race officials from all over the USA.
Al Wilcox, 82, of Trenton, N.J., a former Harley-Davidson factory racer for 4 years, national # 49, race starter for 43 years, started over 3000 races when he was racing, and has been starting races for WERA since 1973 (ERA). Al is an honorary life member of MARRC and will be starting and flagging races at Summit Point, VIR, Rausch Creek, and Pocono this year.
David Yaakov, of Cycle Accessory Discounters in Gaithersburg, MD, sponsored the MARRC Roadracing School in 2000, is a previous track-record holder at Summit Point, and winner of many races and championships in CCS and WERA.
Jim Allen, of Dunlop Motorcycle Tires, helped out many of the MARRC race school staff by providing tires for MARRC racing teachers at a considerable savings. Mr. Allen hails from Canada and raced a Yamaha TZ 750 in AMA Formula 1 Nationals back in the 70's and 80's. Jim can be found at all the Nationals helping his riders with Dunlop tires.
Lyle acknowledged and thanked these recipients for upholding MARRC's mission -- "Dedicated to the advancement of motorcycle roadracing".
