Chuck Aulino #431 in Turn 4

This amazing photo sequence shows Chuck Aulino (#431) of Team Velvet Hammer crashing his Honda 600 at the bottom of Turn 4 and into Turn 5. His bike actually landed on the grass on the inside of Turn 5. According to reports, Chuck was not injured during the while he and his bike endoed through the grass, except for a few bruises. No word on the amount of damage to his machine, although MARRC is grateful that Chuck will be fixing it himself.

Ross Graham (#112) and Anthony Simeone (#87) have front seats to the accident. An ambulance was called immediately and the race had to be red-flagged because the ambulance had no room to park off-course. Partly because of the limited space at the entrance of Turn 5 and the approach speeds, but also because the rain during the week made the ground very soft. Too soft for the heavy ambulances to go into the grass.

The bike couldn't roll on its own, and had to be lifted into the MARRC pickup truck by the cornerworkers. Chuck rode the ambulance back to the pits. The cornerworkers in Turn 5 did an outstanding job in racing to Chuck's aid, keeping the situation under control, and returning the track to normal.

Thanks again to T. Wesley for the action shots. You can see more of his work, and read his team's race report at www.velvethammer.org.
